Live major MMA returns Saturday with the UFC after a welcome weekend off. It’s a disappointing heavyweight headliner in Las Vegas, so Dan and Scott skipped looking back at any of the competitor’s past fights. Instead, they revisited a terrific light heavyweight title clash from 2015 that saw all three judges post different scorecards.

No live major events to break down the judging, so Past Judgment returns for our Memorial Day show with one of the UFC Hall of Fame title fights: Jones-Gustafsson I. The bout was close in 2013, how close exactly? Scott and Dan reexamined it and found one round that ought to have been scored to a higher degree than the others — if CSJ scoring a real, official thing, that is.

No fights this weekend, so the CSJ just went with a theme for this week’s dual Past Judgments: Stockton’s own Nate Diaz. Can Dan resist his pro-209 bias and score these fights down the middle? Watch the fights, then see what he and Scott thought.

After a volatile UFC 262 from a judging standpoint, thanks largely to Houston-based officials, the UFC returned to the comforts of Las Vegas. And while the overall quality of the judging was a cut above last week’s event, Scott and Dan still had plenty of Contested Rounds to discuss. That includes a pair of splits in the headliner, with one judge’s scorecard quite different from his peers. Leave it to the CSJ to explain why that might — or might not — be totally fine.

Cody Garbrant fights don’t hit the judges too often, but the last time one gave the officials quite a workout. Four out of five rounds from Garbrandt’s championship victory over Dominick Cruz in 2016 saw disagreement, including a 10-8/9 conundrum. Since Garbrandt’s back in action this Saturday against Rob Font, Scott and Dan figured the time was right to revisit Cruz-Garbrandt.

Texas judging is back! OK, maybe that’s not exactly a reason to get excited. Instead, it’s bound to make many an MMA fan’s blood boil. And while disaster didn’t strike in any UFC 262 bout (as in, everyone that ought to have won, did win) Scott and Dan have plenty of split rounds to dissect, including the split decision that had everyone — the CSJ included — pretty riled up.
